Sinful Sunday: Wheel

“Sometimes the wheel turns slowly, but it turns.”

Lorne Michaels

~

The wheel is turning pretty slowly for me at the moment. August is the quietest time of year for my industry, so after a couple of (very) near misses on the interview front in late July, I mentally checked out of the job hunt for a few weeks.

Turns out that had unforeseen repurcussions for my general energy levels and sense of…engagement with the world, I guess. After a wonderful holiday in France, I’ve spent the last two weeks trying and failing to attack the various items on my life to-do list: to finish blog posts, write letters, sort shit out around the house, and so on. Instead, I’ve read four books, slept lots, been for the odd run…and that’s really about it! Some would call that sensible self-care, but actually it’s left me feeling a little rootless. Disconnected and frustrated, like I’m grasping at life and failing to grab hold.

Anyway. That’s summer. That’s Covid. Most of us are battling this stuff at the moment, I think – either periodically or just low-key every day for, like, months now. In that sense, I’m lucky. I know the drifting will end, and end soon.

Till then, here’s one of the holiday snaps I meant to share a couple of weeks ago. There will be more over the next few days, either on my blog or on Twitter. It was a fucking awesome 10 days – honestly, it felt like a gift, given how implausible international travel seemed even a couple of months ago – and when our friends were all out for an afternoon (and Baby M was napping), Liv and I put the icing on the cake with a cave-based naked photo shoot.

Because of course.

So yes, slow or not, that wheel really will continue to turn. And I’ll do my best to stay on it.

This is such an amazing picture. It gives me so many thoughts. ? I’m going to need to take a few moments.
So glad you had a good break and I hope that you feel more connected in a good way soon.
